Spare a thought for your skin! Top tips on avoiding sunburn

With families out in full force enjoying the best of the Aussie sunshine, it's important not to let sun safety habits slip at this time of the year.
Sunburn goes far beyond that sore, pink tinge on your skin - the effects of getting repeatedly burnt can accumulate over time and lead to cancer later on in life.
Whether you're indulging in fun school holiday activities at the beach or the park this summer, here are some great ways you can beat the burn.
Time it right
While midday may seem like the best time to soak up the sun and enjoy a game of cricket, it is also when the sun's rays are at their most potent.
Try to avoid being out in the sun between 10 am and 4 pm wherever possible. There's plenty of sunlight to go around during summer days, so if your kids can't seem to keep still, why not take them bowling at this time and let them enjoy outdoors sports later in the evening?
Don't be tricked by cloudy days as well - UV rays can easily penetrate clouds and reach our skin.
Sunscreen isn't everything
You might think you'll be protected with an extra thick coating of sunscreen, but good sun protection goes well beyond that.
Don't forget to slip on some clothing and slap on a hat as well to ensure you and your family are covered from all angles!
You are what you eat
Did you know that eating some foods can help prevent sunburn?
It sounds crazy, but studies have shown that green tea, tomatoes and fruits including strawberries and pomegranates contain important vitamins and nutrients that can protect the skin from UV rays.
Of course, they shouldn't be your only barrier against the sun, so don't forget to pack your sunscreen and hat as well!
It's important to remember to stay safe in the sun this summer. If you've had enough of the outdoors, why not come to a ZONE BOWLING for some team bowling fun?
