Should I wear sunscreen on a cloudy day?

Although highly unlikely in Australia at this time of year, we may get the odd cloudy day and you might wonder if it's okay to skip the sunscreen.

After all, if there isn't a ray of sunlight in sight, do we really need to slip, slop and slap?
It turns out that if you are heading outdoors this summer for fun school holiday activities - no matter the weather - you and your children should definitely be putting on that sunscreen.

That's because although many people believe thick clouds can block the sun's UV rays, this simply isn't true. You might be aware that there are several different types of UV rays and while some are effectively blocked by the oZONE BOWLING layer, others are more than capable of penetrating the earth's atmosphere and anything in its way - including clouds.

It's true that fewer rays overall will reach the earth on a sufficiently cloudy day, but that doesn't eliminate the whole problem. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, up to 40 per cent of UV rays can reach us even on a completely overcast day.

Another misconception is that you can put the sunscreen away in cold or rainy weather. The fact of the matter is that if you're going to be out and about for a while - you need to put your sunscreen on!

In addition to helping prevent sunburns and skin cancer in the long term, sunscreen can also keep you and your children's skin smooth and supple, limiting the effects of aging.

Summer's a great time to be out and about, but make sure you pencil in time for some indoor fun as well! So when you're not too busy hitting the beaches this Christmas, why not come down to ZONE BOWLING for some team bowling action?
