Work party fashion: How to make a great impression on your colleagues
The festive season is in full swing, and merry decorations can be seen in homes and workplaces around the world. Here in Australia, it's the season for end-of-year Christmas parties, and for most of us this presents something of a problem. What should we wear to the office party?
It's not an easy question to answer, and if you're at a new job and haven't seen how people throw down, you might be torn between a few different option. Never fear, the team at ZONE BOWLING is here to help, and we've put together a few surefire winners that will help you to make a great impression on your colleagues.
If there are two words in the English language that best describe how you should dress for the office Christmas party, they are 'casual' and 'chic'. They perfectly capture how you should make an effort, but not too much, and how you should be comfortable, but still try.
The key to casual chic is turning things up a notch from what you'd normally wear on a casual Friday, but without going overboard and looking melodramatic. It's a fine line, but there are a few staple outfits that fit the bill for men and women.
Breaking down casual chic
For men, this is pretty easy. You don't need to wear a suit, but a nice jacket wouldn't go amiss. Other than that, as long as you are wearing long pants (in most cases, obviously a party at the beach is different) and a reasonably nice shirt (the ripped AC/DC one does not count), you'll be absolutely fine.
For women, things are a little bit trickier. Even just a few decades ago Christmas parties were completely dominated by the classic cocktail dress, but things have started to change. Today, that might be a little bit too much (depending on the venue and activity), and you could end up on the formal side of chic. For a safer option, you can go with the more low-key cocktail skirt, but honestly the best guide is simply to wear something that is comfortable, without being pyjamas.
A final note, don't forget that Christmas parties are also an opportunity to dress up in whacky costumes and get a bit crazy with things! The casual chic look may be a necessity for some businesses, but if you can get away with it, we highly recommend throwing caution to the wind and insisting on a classic masquerade or vampire theme. Because why not?
